Pick n Pay 94.7 MTB Challenge hits record high

With a whopping 4000 riders entered into the Pick n Pay 94.7 Mountain Bike Challenge presented by Energade, which takes place on 15 November, the event now boasts the proud status of being the largest mountainbike race in South Africa.

Randburg Spruit Patrol

The Randburg Police Mountain Bike Patrol Unit completed two successful patrols of sections of the Braamfontein Spruit in the past week, in an effort to improve safety for users of the popular urban riverside trail in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.

Cash boost for top SA Mountain bike race

The Sabie Experience, voted one of South Africa’s top cycling events for the past two years, has finally secured the perfect sponsor in York Timbers, the JSE-listed largest manufacturer of sawmill timber in South Africa.

Burry proves unbeatable at Asishove

KwaZulu-Natal’s newly-crowned Under-23 World Cup champion, Burry Stander, conquered a strong field, a tough route and muddy conditions to win the 2008 Pick n Pay Asishove Mountain Bike Challenge in Pinetown on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Mr Price GT rider won the inaugural edition of the race last year and was closely marked by his main rivals throughout most of this year’s event, which took place at Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park as part of the Pick n Pay Amashovashova Weekend Cycling Festival.     Readmore

Clean sweep for Neotel at Tour de Vino

This weekend the quartet of James Perry, Jeremy Maartens, Nolan Hoffman and Johann Rabie took control of proceedings at the Medscheme Tour de Vino and ran out victorious claiming all three podium positions.

The race was contested by numerous top squads from the Western Cape with Team Neotel being the only Gauteng based squad to make an appearance. Future stars twinkle at Amashova under-16 tour

Louis Meintjes of the Toyota Supercycling Youth Academy conquered extreme weather, an abundance of hills and strong opposition to become the 2008 Amashova National Under-16 Cycle Tour champion at the weekend.

The country’s highest profile road cycling event for Under-16s took place over five stages in four days in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands on a tough course designed to test the young riders to the full. Cycling stars Robert Hunter and Andrew McLean entered for the 2008 Pick n Pay Amashovashova cycle race on Monday, just ahead of the 1 October entry cut-off deadline, in an effort to settle some unfinished business.

Race Report: FPC Down & Dirty

The first edition of the FPC Down and Dirty was held in Centurion over the weekend and boy, did it make an impact. The race, held at Southdowns Collage, featured a 60 km, 30 km and 2 kid's races that attracted around 1500 cyclists. With the large number of entrants, the race start was pushed back to 8:20 which also allowed things to warm up a little on what could have been a morning in the middle of winter.
